Daily Sun July 29, 1935: Hettie Estelle Wood, second daughter of Joseph and Rebecca Wood, was born near Hull, Kans., March 19, 1867, where she spent her girlhood. February 15, 1885, she was united in marriage to Newman W. Elliott. To this union one son Howard was born. Except for a brief residence in Nebraska her entire life was spent in Marshall county Kansas. In March, 1922, she and her husband moved to the present home in Oketo. She affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal church some years ago, was an active member of Eastern Star, Royal Neighbors of America also of Oketo community club, always being most interested in those things which lead for the betterment of the community. On February 15, 1935, Mr. and Mrs. Elliott celebrated their golden wedding at their home. She departed from this life on July 12, 1935. Although she had been in poor health for some time her death was unexpected. She leaves to mourn her going, her husband N. W. Elliott of the home and the son Howard A. Elliott of Clay Center, Kans., two grandsons, Loren Wesley and Raymond Glen Elliott, one brother Wallace M. Wood of Oketo, Kans., and one sister, Mrs. Ida V. Heyers of Barneston, Kans., and numerous other relatives and friends. Her mother and father and two brothers preceded her in death. We call it death, this slipping of the earthly moorings, and drifting with the ebbing tide away. But it's only the passing through the shadows into a life of endless day. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon July 14, at 2:30 o'clock the Rev. M. W. Whitlow of Marysville officiating. The body was laid to rest in Oketo cemetery.
