Rickard, who lives approximately three miles north of Thomasville, today had been ordered held for trial in Davidson county superior court on a charge of manslaughter in connection with the death of Miss Hettie Sumner, of near Jamestown, who died in a local hospital Wednesday from injuries sustained in an automobile wreck near Thomasville late last Saturday night. The verdict of the coroner's jury, which came to this city yesterday to view the body at Sechrest's Funeral Home, was the the youg woman had come to her death as a result of injures sustained in the crash. The jury was in charge of Sheriff J. A. Leonard, Chief F. C. Smith, of Thomasville, and Dr. R. V. Yokely, coroner. The exact cause of Miss Sumner's death, as found by the coroner, was a fractured spinal column. The jury added that it was on account of the negligence of Richard, who was driving the car, that the automobile overturned at the intersection of the state routes 61 and 109. Funeral servces for Miss Sumner were conducted this afternoon at 2 o'clock from Mitchell's Grove M. P. church. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Saturday, October 3, 1931 FINAL RITES FOR GIRL KILLED IN AUTO ACCIDENT FUNERAL SERVICES HELD WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON FOR MISS HETTIE L. SUMNER, FATALLY INJURED IN CRASH Funeral services for Miss Hettie L. Sumner, aged 21 years, who passed away at a local hospital on Wednesday afternoon, death following injuries which she received in an automobile accident near Thomasville Saturday evening, were conducted yesterrday afternoon at Mitchell Grove M. P. church by the pastor Rev. E. O. Peeler, and Rev. E. W. Jones, pastor of Hickory Chapel Wesleyan Methodist church. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The pallbearers were Messers. W. C. Jackson, James Norman, Earl Jones, R. L. Rickard, Roy Rickard and Charles Allred. The flowers were carried by Misses Hazel Farrington, Willis Starbuck, Pauline Jackson, Pearl Younger, Viola Melton, Ola Marshall and Bell Hetley. During the services the choir sang "Nearer My God to Thee," "Death is Only a Dream" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." A large crowd attended the services and the floral offerings were many and beautiful.
