Description	:	Hilary B Carter was born June 29, 1821 in Wellsburg, West Virginia and departed this life August 25, 1895 at the age of 74 years 1 month 25 days. He was married to Elizabeth A Shipley on January 21, 1847 and there was born to them four children three sons and two daughters, who with the wife and mother survive to mourn the loss of a kind husband, loving father and an obliging neighbor. Read More	Hilary B Carter was born June 29, 1821 in Wellsburg, West Virginia and departed this life August 25, 1895 at the age of 74 years 1 month 25 days. He was married to Elizabeth A Shipley on January 21, 1847 and there was born to them four children three sons and two daughters, who with the wife and mother survive to mourn the loss of a kind husband, loving father and an obliging neighbor. They came to Dixon, Scott County, Iowa November 1, 1855 and lived there for three yesrs. From there they moved to Harrisville, Cass County, Missouri on September 1, 1858 living there for two years. They then came to Jackson Township, this county (Poweshiek County). After remaining here for a short time they moved to their farm in Scott Township which has since been their home. The deceased was taken ill in November 1894 with what his physicians called heart disease, but his condition was not considered of a serious nature until April 1895 when it was plainly visible to his family and friends that unless a great change took place he would not be with them long. He very often spoke of the change that was to come sooner or later and expressed himself as being prepared and ready to meet his God. Funeral services were held at the home on Monday afternoon conducted by Rev J W Lambert after which the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at this place. Friends and neighbors were present in great numbers.
