He was born on March 7, 1932 in Wells County to the late Paul and Clara (Bohnke) Witte. He worked as a farmer, a wire drawer at Phelps Dodge, and mostly recently and most enjoyably at Ossian Hardware. He was born on March 7, 1932 in Wells County to the late Paul and Clara (Bohnke) Witte. He worked as a farmer, a wire drawer at Phelps Dodge, and mostly recently and most enjoyably at Ossian Hardware. He was a member at Bethlehem Lutheran Church; he served as chairman of the Decatur Circuit Lutheran Layman's League, Wells County Farm Bureau chairman for 2 terms, Ossian Medical Community, IBEW #1549 Electric Union at Phelps Dodge, Arbitration & Negotiation Board, and was proud to complete the Purdue Agricultural Short Course. Surviving family include his wife of 57 years, Helen (Hoffman) Witte; children, Michael (Jana) Witte of Wilkinson, IN, Marielle (Larry) Lael of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Annalee, Evan, Isabella, Nicholas Witte, Katie, Luke, Devin, and Mallory Lael; brothers, Erwin F. Witte of Fort Wayne, and Carl Witte of New Haven. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul R. Witte. A funeral service will be 10:00 am on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 7545 North 650 East Ossian with visitation one hour prior to services. Visitation will also be from 1-3 pm on Sunday, January 29, 2012 and 2-8 pm on Monday, January 30, 2012 at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home, 120 West Mill Street, Ossian. Burial will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Ossian Revitalization for statue with the hope that it can be placed in outdoor reading room by the library and Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
