Description	:	Hilda Brockman was the fourth child of Dr. David Crawford Brockman and Sara Augusta Mallory Brockman. She was born in Ottumwa, Iowa shortly after the family had moved there from Marengo, Iowa. She had a younger sister, Ruth, who was born 4 years after her. When the family moved to Ottumwa, her maternal grandparents also moved into the house next door to them. Hilda's mother... Read More	Hilda Brockman was the fourth child of Dr. David Crawford Brockman and Sara Augusta Mallory Brockman. She was born in Ottumwa, Iowa shortly after the family had moved there from Marengo, Iowa. She had a younger sister, Ruth, who was born 4 years after her. When the family moved to Ottumwa, her maternal grandparents also moved into the house next door to them. There was an enclosed walkway between the two houses so that family members could go back and forth in any kind of weather. Their grandfather Mallory was an invalid from the Civil War. Hilda's mother died after a long illness in 1908 when Hilda was 17. Her oldest sister, Helen, looked after the younger siblings after their father remarried in 1910. Hilda was a graduate nurse of St. Luke's Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. She was also a graduate of Columbia University in New York City, NY. During World War I she served as an Army nurse at Camp Pike in Little Rock, Arkansas. After she left the Army, she taught for seven years at the State College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Hilda died at the Mt. Alto US Veteran's Hospital in Washington, DC, following a lingering illness. Her body was transported back to Ottumwa, Iowa for burial. Hilda was survived by her brother, Charles Brockman and his family, and her stepmother, Lucy Warden Brockman of Ottumwa, Iowa. She was also survived by her three sisters, Helen, Louise, and Ruth of Folkston, Georgia at the time.
