Read More	Wilson……………………….Hilda Faye Owens, age 71, died Sunday, February 6, 2011 at Wilson Medical Center due to complications relating to progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 P.M. at the Winstead United Methodist Church in Wilson. Interment will follow in Queen Anne Cemetery in Fountain. She was born in Fountain on March 23, 1939, to the late Essie Lee Gay Owens and Floyd Curtis Owens. She graduated from Farmville High School in 1957 and earned her undergraduate and M.Ed. degrees from East Carolina University and her Ph.D. in Higher Education from Florida State University. Dr. Owens worked in education over 40 years, beginning as a teacher in the New Bern School System. Following that she became Dean of Students at Mount Olive College, graduate intern for the Florida State Board of Higher Education, assistant professor at the University of South Carolina, and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Spartanburg Methodist College. Her final career years were spent with Excel Resources as a consultant, trainer, and mentor in management and organizational development for businesses and institutions in the S.C. area. She was active in the Business and Professional Women's Association (BPWA) and served as S.C. State President. She was also active in numerous higher education associations, community organizations, and was a published author of books and articles on higher education. She had retired to Wilson, N.C. Surviving are a sister, Emily Langley of Wilson (Fountain); brother, Rev. Guy Owens of Wendell; sister-in-law, Audrey Owens of Fountain; six nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Lenwood Owens of Fountain. The family will receive friends at the Farmville Funeral Home, Tuesday evening from 7 until 8:30 P.M. and other times at the home of Dr. Owens, caretaker and niece, Faith Fitzgerald, 4517 Lennox Drive, Wilson, NC.
