She was formally a resident of Heartland of Keyser, following a long illness. Born on Oct. 24, 1916 in Westernport, she was the daughter of Charles E. and Clara A. (McMillen) Laughlin and is the last surviving member of her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Rafter; a son, Ronald Lee Rafter; a grandson, Thomas Glenn Rafter; and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Rafter. Hilda was a 1933 graduate of St. Peter's High School, a member of St. Peter's Church in Westernport, the Catholic Daughters' of America, St. Peter's Alumni Association, and the Westernport Senior Citizens. She was a school health aide at Bishop Walsh for many years. Hilda was a life-long bridge player and enjoyed shopping and social activities with her family and many friends. Surviving are her daughter, Mary Ann Moran and husband Robert of Westernport; her two sons, James L. Rafter of Worcester, Mass. and Thomas H. Rafter of Middlebury, Ind.; two granddaughters, Jennifer Moran Flinn, husband Michael, and their son, Aidan, and Kristen Moran Liller, husband Justin, and their son, Keegan. Friends will be received at Fredlock Funeral Home in Piedmont, W.Va., on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral Mass will be conducted at St. Peter's Church by Fr. Ed Hendricks on Friday at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Church in Westernport. The family would like to thank the Staff of Heartland of Keyser and Potomac Valley Hospital for their compassionate care."
