Hilda was born in Cleveland Ohio to Michael and Sarah Daniels. She had a happy childhood in Cleveland until at the age of nine her Mother passed away and at the age of thirteen her Father died. She was left an orphan in 1932 in the middle of the Great Depression. Hilda was born in Cleveland Ohio to Michael and Sarah Daniels. She had a happy childhood in Cleveland until at the age of nine her Mother passed away and at the age of thirteen her Father died. She was left an orphan in 1932 in the middle of the Great Depression. The Solts, who were family acquaintances, in Berlin Heights, Ohio heard that she had been orphaned and took her in to their home to live with them. Now Hilda went from being an only child and an orphan to a family with two sisters, Katherine & DeLauris, and a brother Dick, whom she loved dearly. The principal at Hilda’s high school knew that she was a good student, but had no means to go to college. He helped her get a loan to go to Capital University in Columbus Ohio where she received her bachelor’s degree in chemistry. She continued on at the University of Ohio and received her master’s degree in Microbiology. A year after she graduated she moved to Seattle, Washington to take a research position at the University of Washington where she worked with one of the first scanning electron microscopes. Hilda met John “Jack” Agar in 1947 and they were married on Christmas Day. They celebrated their 62nd anniversary last Christmas. In 1958 their daughter, Kathy, was born and in 1963 another daughter, Norma Jean, was born. Hilda was a wonderful Mother, always happy, kind and loving. She volunteered in many capacities in the girl’s schools and as a tutor helping many children. Both girls moved to Richland, Washington, and in 1992 Jack and Hilda moved to a home just minutes away from both of them. She had two grandchildren, Scott born in 1987 and Chelsea born in 1989 that she enjoyed and loved dearly and they had the joy of having Grandma just down the street. Jack and Hilda enjoyed their family, their garden, and their Shalom church family very much. Hilda is survived by her husband, Jack Agar, daughters Kathy and husband Jeff, Norma Jean and husband Eric, and grandchildren Scott & Chelsea. At Hilda’s request there will be no services. Please enjoy the spring flowers and take a moment to think of a happy memory of Hilda.
