Description	:	Hilda Hager, longtime Timber Lake resident, was known for her gentle manner and soft-spoken words of kindness, but she was a firm believer in education. She had been unable to complete her high school education due to her father's illness, so she encouraged all of her children to at least graduate from high school. She had been unable to complete her high school education due to her father's illness, so she encouraged all of her children to at least graduate from high school. Her own lack of having a high school diploma didn't stop her from taking an active part in her community. She enjoyed cooking and baking (kuchen was her specialty) and the students considered themselves lucky when she was a cook for the Timber Lake Public School. She was a member of the Holy Cross Altar Society, and loved to play bingo, card games, and nickel slot machines. She had a skill crocheting and made many beautiful doilies. "And mom was a caring wife, mother and grandmother," her children said. In failing health, Hilda died Friday, May 2, 2008, at the Golden LivingCenter in Mobridge at the age of 82. She was born April 2, 1926, in Strasburg, N.D., to Anton and Otillia (Reis) Voller. She grew up on the family farm near Strasburg. On Oct. 5, 1948, Hilda married Eddie Hager at St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church in Strasburg. They lived in Strasburg until 1953, when they moved to Bismarck, N.D. In 1954, they moved to South Dakota and farmed near Isabel. In 1960 they bought a farm near Timber Lake, where they raised their seven children. She went to school as a cook after her children were grown. Hilda is survived by Eddie, her husband of 59 years, who lives in Timber Lake; three sons, Tony Hager of Cayanosa, Texas, Joe (Arlette) Hager of Timber Lake, and Tom (Charlene) Hager of Aberdeen; three daughters, Judy Lipp of Rapid City, Jane Ducheneaux of Eagle Butte, and Connie (Al) Schaner of Bismarck; 15 grandchildren, Stacey Nelson, Darren Ducheneaux, Tara Ducheneaux, Shelby Gray, Misty Holzer, Lyle Hager, Joey Hager, Marley Hager, Shane Hager, Ann'D Hager, Kaylyn Schaner, Brittany Schaner, Ryan Schaner, Cole Hager, Cade Hager and 12 great grandchildren, Aspen, Seth, Alyssa, Taylor, J.C., Jacob, Kalli, Joelynn, Austin, Aaron, Abbi and Garrett; three brothers, Tony Voller of Mobridge, Willie (Alvina) Voller of Mobridge and Andy (Violet) Voller of Timber Lake; and two sisters, Helen Hulm of Denver, Colo., and Margaret Baumgartner of Strasburg. Her parents, one son, Jerry, two brothers, Artie and Joe, and one sister, Bertha, preceded Hilda in death. Mass of Christian Burial for Hilda was celebrated this morning, Wednesday, May 7, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Timber Lake with the Rev. Kevin Achach as celebrant. Casketbearers were grandsons Lyle Hager, Joey Hager, Shane Hager, Darren Ducheneaux, Ryan Schaner, Cole Hager and Cade Hager. Honorary bearers were granddaughters Stacey Nelson, Tara Ducheneaux, Shelby Gray, Misty Holzer, Marley Hager, Ann'D Hager, Kaylyn Schaner and Brittany Schaner, and brothers Tony Voller, Willie (Alvina) Voller and Andy (Violet) Voller. Burial was in the Timber Lake Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral home of Mobridge. Mobridge Tribune May 7, 2008
