Wenner, age 85 of Lemmon, will be held at 10:00am, Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lemmon. All of Hilda's nieces and nephews are considered honorary bearers. A memorial has been established. Hilda Wilma Rieger was born June 30, 1925 at Athboy, SD to Emanuel and Fredaricka (Permann) Rieger. Her parents were immigrants from Romania and Russia and pioneers in the Athboy community. Hilda was one of 10 children. She grew up and attended school by horseback. She received many attendance and penmanship awards, graduating from the eighth grade in 1940 with high marks in Writing, Geography, Science and Art. Hilda met Frank when he arrived at the farm to purchase a combine and they met again at the Isabel school carnival in 1946. They were married Oct 15th 1947 in Perkins County SD. Frank had been farming and ranching with his parents so Hilda moved in, cleaned up the "bachelor" house, and they set about raising a family of four, three sons and a daughter. In 1954 they built a new home on the farm. There Hilda's kitchen was always filled with the smell of fresh bread, cookies, pie, kuchen and cinnamon rolls. She provided three big meals a day, always with dessert. Her days started with making a big breakfast, lunch sometimes had to go out to the field and we knew when to come in for supper when she rang the outside fire alarm that Dad wired in. In the evenings she would sit with Dad and read. In 1975 they retired, moved to Lemmon and enjoyed living in town for many years before Frank passed away in 2001 and Hilda's health began to fail in 2007. She moved to Rapid City to be closer to her daughter Linda and lived the remainder of her years in assisted living there. Hilda passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at the Golden Living Center-Belle Vista in Rapid City, S.D. Surviving family members include her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Norm Peterson, Rapid City, SD; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Floyd and Carla Wenner, Cheyenne, WY; Dwight and Debbie Wenner, Lemmon, SD; Myron and Karen Wenner, Palm Harbor, FL; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Eric) Sheffield, Janessa (Daniel) Edgett, Chris, Jason, Eric, Josh (Heather), Justin (Sara) Wenner; Janci (Jeff) Herr, and Tessa Wenner,; great grandchildren, Dalton and Hunter Sheffield, Keely, Keegan, and Kiara Edgett, Sophia, Adyson, and Landon Wenner; 1 brother and 2 sisters-in-law, Loran and Holly Rieger, Green Valley, AZ; Edna Rieger, Lemmon, SD; 1 brother-in-law, Harold Gall, McIntosh, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank, 4 sisters, Helen Bryan, Leona Rieger, Minnie Gall and Reneda Tietz; 4 brothers, John, Albert, Edwin, and Allen Rieger. Visitation will be Monday, 1:00 to 9:00 pm at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon and on Tuesday one hour prior to services at St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
