Description	:	Hildegard Marie Schuelke was born on May 5, 1914, at Nassau, Minnesota. She was the daughter of John and Anna (Kantahk) Schuelke. When she was almost five years old her mother died and she was fortunate enough to have another mother, Agnes, when her father remarried. She grew up in the Nassau, MN and Rosen, MN areas and received the sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rosen. Read More	Hildegard Marie Schuelke was born on May 5, 1914, at Nassau, Minnesota. She was the daughter of John and Anna (Kantahk) Schuelke. When she was almost five years old her mother died and she was fortunate enough to have another mother, Agnes, when her father remarried. She grew up in the Nassau, MN and Rosen, MN areas and received the sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rosen. She completed the 8th grade at District 50, near Rosen. As a young girl she helped out on the family farm as was the custom in those days and later worked in the Twin Cities as a nanny and housekeeper. When her father was having health problems she came back to the farm to help put in the spring crops. During this time she also helped out with many of the relatives when they needed extra help and also worked at the Big Stone Canning Company during the corn run. On June 3, 1941, she married Herbert Kaiser at St. Joseph Church and they lived and farmed northwest of Big Stone City, South Dakota. Herbert passed away on September 24, 1973, and she continued to live on the farm until 1978, at which time she moved into Big Stone City and lived with family. In April of 2006, she entered Northridge Residence in Ortonville, Minnesota due to health. Hillie loved working on the farm and in her garden, especially with her flowers. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing for her family, crocheting, baking and embroidery work. She was given the name "Grandma Big Stone" by her oldest grandson, Steve, so that he could distinguish between his grandmothers and the name struck with all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She thoroughly enjoyed the times she got to baby sit for any of her grandchildren and also taking care of her three "adopted grandchildren," Lindsey, Allison and Gina Nelsen. She was an active member of St. Charles Catholic Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and was voted Legionette of the Year in 1995. She also bowled at one time on the Auxiliary team. She was voted Queen from Northridge for the Corn Festival in 2006. Hildegard Kaiser is survived by her children: Mary; Sylvester; Jenny and husband Don; Jerome and wife Andrea, and Pat; 9 grandchildren: Steve (Nancy), Chelle (Richard), Kristi (Gabe), Erika, Beth, Justin, William, Joey, and Ashley; 4 great grandchildren: Chance, MacKenzie and Lane, and Talan.Also surviving are one sister, Dorothy and husband Al Schultz and one brother, John and wife Fumiko Schuelke, and a sister-in-law, Edith Schuelke . She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters: Dora Volkenant, Lorina Geisenkoetter and Marie Schuelke; one brother: Alphonse Schuelke; three grandchildren: Adam Kaiser, Lee Marie Kaiser, and Justin Torrence and one son-in-law: Willis Wanner.
