He was born March 12, 1917, in Stokes County, to Henry L. George and Verda M. George. Mr. George was a member of Westfield Baptist Church, retired from Duplan Corp. of Winston-Salem and Simmons Ford of Pilot Mountain. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, a past master of Pilot Lodge 493, and past patron of Pilot Mountain Chapter 23 OES. Highway 89 W., Westfield, passed away Thursday morning, Oct. 16, 2003, at his residence. He was born March 12, 1917, in Stokes County, to Henry L. George and Verda M. George. Mr. George was a member of Westfield Baptist Church, retired from Duplan Corp. of Winston-Salem and Simmons Ford of Pilot Mountain. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, a past master of Pilot Lodge 493, and past patron of Pilot Mountain Chapter 23 OES. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Westfield Baptist Church, with the Rev. Joel Stephens and the Rev. Tom Southern officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Masonic rites. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today, Oct. 17, at the church. The family would like to give a special thank you to Hospice of Surry County for the love and support that the staff has given. Memorials may be made to Northern Hospice, 1033 Highway 52 N., Mount Airy, NC 27030. The George family is being served by Cox-Needham Funeral Home in Pilot Mountain.
