| Description | : | School buses in the early 1900's were just horse-drawn wagons. On December 14, 1917 the bus was going to school after picking up all 17 children that rode it. They were crossing the train tracks and the train hit the bus coming from the east. The bus was dragged down the track for a quarter of a mile before it stopped. Hilko Tjabring was thrown from the bus and died later that day. 17 children total were on the bus. No one else had major injuries. |
