The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, at New Hope Baptist Church in Orangeburg, with the Rev. Anthony Hughes and the Rev. Wayne Ellis officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Orangeburg. The casket will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men's Sunday School Class of New Hope Baptist Church and all of his caregivers. He was born Nov. 4, 1926, in Orangeburg, the son of the late H. Bucher Gleaton and the late Beulah Davis Gleaton. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was a deacon at Mount Carmel and New Hope Baptist Church. He owned and operated Gleaton's Appliance Service until his retirement. Survivors include one daughter, Ann Gleaton Black of Lexington; two sons, Donald Gleaton of Irmo and Larry Gleaton and wife Karma of Blythewood; two step-daughters, Bonnie Rogers and husband Danny, and Linda Taylor of Florence; one stepson, Jerry Oates and wife Misty of Orangeburg; three granddaughters, Susan Madrigal, Robin Cearcia and Sharon Bouknight; four grandsons, Donnie Gleaton, Josh Gleaton, Chris Gleaton and Jody Atkins; a number of great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren; a number of step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Gleaton Linder of Orangeburg; one niece, Sandy (Phillip) Cave of Orangeburg; and a number of great-nieces and -nephews; two great-nieces; one great-nephew; one great-great niece; seven great-great-nephews. Friends may call at the funeral home. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, at Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Orangeburg. Memorials may be made to H.F. Mabry Center for Cancer Care, 1161 Cook Road, Orangeburg, SC 29118, or New Hope Baptist Church, 4000 Riverbank Dr., Orangeburg, SC 29118.
