Read More	LARGE THRONG PAYS TRIBUTE TO CLAREMONT WOMAN WHO DIED WEDNESDAY A large group of neighbors and friends filled the Augustana Lutheran church northeast of Groton, Sunday afternoon, to attend the last rites for Mrs. Hilma Benson, who died in the hospital in Aberdeen after a long illness, early Wednesday, April 21. A life-long member of the congregation, she had been an indefatigable worker in various departments of its activity. She was the leading spirit in a comparatively recent renovation of the church auditorium, and enterprise which may well be said to be a monument of her energy and zeal for her church. In earlier years she was a member of the church choir and a worker in the Sunday school, as well as in the Happy Circle, the ladies aid division of the congregation. Shortly before she was stricken with the illness that claimed her life, she had begun a movement to establish a burying ground on church property adjacent to the church lot and park but failing strength prevented her from carrying out the project. She was a native of Chisago City, Minn., born there on December 12, 1880, to Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Swenson, who two years later came to Dakota Territory, homesteading northeast of Groton. Here she grew to womanhood and was married to Charles Benson June 29, 1904, moving to Claremont to establish their home. Claremont remained her home until last fall when she went to Aberdeen to live with her daughter, Miss Hazel Benson. Fast failing health made it seem best that she be with her daughter, Mrs. G. F. French, in Chicago and she went there early in the year returning to Aberdeen shortly before her death. Surviving are three children, Mrs. G. F. French of Chicago, Miss Hazel Benson of Aberdeen and a son, Byron, of Chicago. Her husband preceded her in death in December, 1942, as did a son, who died in 1912. Other survivors include four brothers, Henry Swenson of Santa Ana, Calif., Arthur Swenson of Minneapolis, George and Otto Swenson of Claremont, and one sister, Mrs. Anna Berg of Los Angeles, Calif. Three brothers, Charles, Frank and Axel preceded her in death. Officiating at the impressive rite was the silver-haired veteran pastor of the church, Rev. C. E. Shaleen, who preached the sermon and consigned the body to the grave beside her husband.
