O. Doering, a resident of Plymouth for fifty-five years, after an illness of two weeks at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Herman Monke, in Grant township, Friday, September 7. Mr. Doering was 83 years of age and had been in failing health for some time, consequent on infirmities of old age. He was one of the first settlers in Grant township, coming there with his parents, who homesteaded land in 1873. Heio Oltman Doering was born August 9, 1845 at Wiesede, Ostfriestland, Germany, and in 1864 came with other members of the Doering family to America. They settled in Dixon county, Illinois, and then moved to Iowa, where they lived in Jones county until they came to Plymouth county. Mr. Doering farmed successfully for many years until his retirement from active work. He was a leading citizen in his community and was held in high regard by all those who knew him. His wife preceded him in death in 1914. He is survived by his five sons, William Doering, of Bellfield, N. D., Henry, of Beech, N. D.; George of Madison, S. D.; Albert and John and one daughter, Mrs. H. H. Monke, of Grant township. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at St. John's Lutheran church, Rev. J. J. Vollmar officiatingand J. D. Meyer of Mammen, assisting. Interment will be made in the city cemetery. A cerebral Henmmorage was the cause of his death. The funeral will be held Tuesday afternnon from St. John's Lutheran church, Rev. J. J. Vollmar officiating. Burial will be made in the city cemetry, beside his wife who died 14 years ago. Beely's will have charge of the funeral Deceased was born in Germany of August 9, 1845, and came to Mills county, Iowa, at an early age, where he was united in marriage. The family came to Plymouth county 57 years ago and farmed in Grant township. For the last eight years Mr. Doering had been making his home with his daughter. He leaves six children who are: John, Albert and Mrs. Herman Monke of Grant township; George of Madison, S. D.; Henry of Beach, N. D.; and William of Bellfield N. D. Sixteen grand children and 11 great grandchildren also survive. Mr. Doering enjoyed the acquaintance of many friends, who join with the relatives in mourning the passing of one of the county's pioneers.
