Stoyell, of this city, is in receipt of the sad intelligence of the death and burial of his father, at Farmington, Me., Mr. Stoyell's former residence. The Chronicle of that city pays the following complimentary tribute to the life, public services and death of the late Mr. Stoyell: Hiram B. Stoyell, whose death occurred on Saturday morning last, was a man well known to the county, having been tor many years largely engaged in business enterprises. Mr. Stoyell was born on the spot where he died, in 1806, and has lived in Farmington his entire life, with the exception of two years 1837-38, which he spent in Alabama. He was educated at the village school and at the old academy. In 1831 he entered the store of B. K. Lowell, as clerk, and on becoming of age formed a partnership with Mr. L., which continued one year, when Mr. Stoyell went into business by himself. In 1850 he entered into partnership with the late Leander Boardman, which continued till 1853, when it was dissolved. In 1857, on account of failing health, he retired from trade, but returned to active business pursuits in 1863, in which, however, he continued, only one and a half years, when, his health compelled him to retire permanently from mercantile life. During his years of activity, Mr. Stoyell managed a large and successful business, and accumulated a fine property In public life, Mr. Stoyell at various times filled the offices of town treasurer, town clerk and selectman, and in 1861-2 represented his town in the legislature. Mr. Stoyell was identified through many years with the welfare of this town and county, and in many ways sought to promote their business interests and general prosperity. He was reliable and upright in his business relations, and in social and domestic life was kind and affectionate. In 1845 he married Miss Mary daughter of the late Leander Boardman, by whom he had six children, four sons and two daughters, of whom one son and one daughter died in infancy. The funeral was attended at the residence, Sunday afternoon, Rev. J. Burnham conducting the services. The remains were interred in the beautiful Boardman-Stoyell lot at Riverside Cemetery.
