Austin died at the home of his son, John F. Austin, near Rye, at 11 o'clock, June 8. He had been a resident of Colorado since June, 1863, and had lived in Pueblo county continuously for 34 years. No one was better known than "Uncle Hiram," as he was commonly called. He was a true man in very sense of the word and did much to build up the schools and other public institutions of his township. A widow and nine children survive him. He had been married four times and was the father of 21 children. He was born in Monroe county, New York in December, 1810, and was a veteran of the Black Hawk war. The funeral will take place at Rye tomorrow. T. G. McCarthy & Co., undertakers and embalmers.
