Description	:	Hiram Tracy Jones was the son of William (no middle name) and Jane Reynolds Jones. His father, William Jones, fought in the War of 1812 and his grandfather, Jacob Jones, fought in the Revolutionary War. Hiram was the grandson of Jacob and Mary Martha Holden Jones and James and Susannah Trout Reynolds. He was born in the part of Botetourt County that became Craig County in 1851. He was a brother of Elizabeth Eleanor Jones Bell (1822-1881), James Alexander Jones (1823-1891), Jacob E. Jones (1826-1857), John A. Jones (1830-1900), Margaret A. Jones Thomas (1834- ), William Harvy Jones (1837-1864), George L. Jones (1840- ), and Madison Floyd Jones (1844-1924). He married Christina Echols on 27 Dec 1849 in Giles County, Virginia. She is buried beside Hiram in the Jones Cemetery, Eggleston, Giles County, Virginia. Hiram Tracy Jones was apprenticed as a blacksmith in his youth. He learned his trade so well that he bought off his contract before his allotted time and went into business for himself on the well-used road leading from Cumberland Gap to Buchanan. (According to Lucy Lee Lancaster, his great-granddaughter) The Hiram Tracy Jones family lived in Craig County, Virginia until 1859 when they moved to Giles County, Virginia - according to the testimony of their daughter Margaret Elizabeth Austin Jones Walker when she applied for her Civil War Widow's Pension in 1922. During the Civil War, he served under Capt. David A. French in Company B in the Stark's Battalion Light Artillery. Per Company muster rolls, Hiram T. Jones was enlisted at Newport, Virginia on May 15, 1862. Source: The Virginia Regimental Histories Series Hiram T. and Christina Echols Jones saw that their children were all educated. He settled his children on farms nearby in the Green Valley/Eggleston area of Giles County. The home where he and Christina lived and raised some of their children still stands and is now owned by their g-g-grandson.
