Description	:	Final rites for Hobart M. Richards, 81, of 428 S. 2nd St., will be conducted 10 a.m., Thursday from Chaney Walters Funeral Home. Graveside military rites by the Sterling American Legion Post No. 20 and burial will follow at Riverside cemetery. Mr. Richards died Sunday in a Sterling hospital of injuries he received in a automobile accident early Sunday morning near Iliff. He was born Sept. 28, 1896, in Shelbyville, Mo., the son of Samuel and Mary E. Duncan Richards. Mr. Richards died Sunday in a Sterling hospital of injuries he received in a automobile accident early Sunday morning near Iliff. He was born Sept. 28, 1896, in Shelbyville, Mo., the son of Samuel and Mary E. Duncan Richards. He received his early schooling in Missouri and farmed in that area before moving with his parents to the West Plains area where they homesteaded in 1915. Mr. Richards farmed in the Graylin and Williard areas until going to work for the Colorado State Highway Department in 1937 and moved to Sterling. He retired from the state highway department in 1964 afrer 32 years of service and was a senior Maintenance man. He then worked as a security guard for Northeastern Junior College for 11 years, was security officer for Logan County for one year and had been employed at the Iliff Alfalfa Plant for the past two years. Mr. Richards married Florence Antrim June 11, 1925 in Denver. He served with the U.S. Army during World War 1. Mr. Richards was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, American Legion Post No. 20, Last Squad of the American Legion, the 40 & 8, World War I Veterans and the American Association of Retired Persons. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Florence Richards of Sterling; two daughters, Mrs. Pauline Whitledge of Casper, Wyo., and Mrs. Barbara Cowen of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; a son, Ronald Richards of Pueblo; two brothers, Elmer Richards of Windsor, Ill., and Simon Richards of Aloha, Ore.; a sister, Mrs. Ida Carey of Merino; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Chaney-Walters Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
