Born April 11,1911, in Washington County, he was a graduate of Mitchell High School. In 1934, he was married at Mitchell to Helen Gard, who survives. Mr. Elgin had been general manager of Lafayette Cooperative Elevator Co, retiring June 1, 1976. Prior to moving to Lafayette in 1956, he did extensive work in accounting through Indiana University. He was a member of Stidham United Methodist Church, and Home Lodge, F&AM, at Fort Wayne. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving at Aberdeen Proving Ground. Surviving with the widow are two sons, William Elgin of Massillon, OH, and Robert Elgin of Cincinnati, OH; one brother, Ralph Elgin or Orleans, IN; and three grandchildren. --Lafayette Journal & Courier - Fri 1/14/1977, page 4
