A native of Lewes, he was born in the house at 115 King's Highway, the fifth of the six children of Anthony Paynter Ingram and Mollie Poynter Ingram. He graduated from Lewes High School in 1937. He was a graduate of Chaffey Junior College in 1939 in Ontario, California and he attended the University of Pennsylvania Evening School o f Accounts and Finance. He was a retired Vice President of the Philadelphia National Bank where his assignments were to the Commercial Division in Philadelphia and the Retail Division in Norristown. During his 26 years with the bank, he was active in a number outside organizations including, in Philadelphia, the Kiwanis Club, the Chamber on Commerce of Greater Philadelphia and the United Way. He was a past President of the Old Christ Church Neighborhood Businessmen's Association. He was an Honorary Member and former Treasurer of the Rotary Club of Norristown, PA. He was a past Board Member of the Greater Valley Forge Chamber of Commerce and the Montgomery County Banker's Association. He was a long-time Member of the Advisory Board of the Norristown Corps of the Salvation Army and a past Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Montgomery County Opportunities Industrialization Center, (OIC). He sat on the Trustee's Committee of the Central Montgomery County Foundation. A Veteran of World War II, he was drafted into the Army just days before Pearl Harbor in 1941. His first assignment after Basic Training was as Trombonist in the Regimental Band at Fort Totten, New York. He graduated from the Anti-Aircraft Artillery Officer Candidate School at Camp Davis, North Carolina in August 1942 and was assigned to the school for the following year as an instructor. He served int European Theatre as the Excutive Officer of an AA Automatic Weapons Battery, where he participated in four campaigns including the Battle of the Bulge. During the advance into Germany he saw at first hand the atrocities at the Nazi Concentration Camp at Buchenwald. Following a period of post war duty in France he was returned to the states and separated from active duty with the rank of Captain. He remained active in the Army Reserve from which he subsequently retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. In the Summer of 1946 he returned to France as a civilian, was married in Epernay in September and returned to Lewes with his Bride, Monique "Pepe" Saizelet, just before Christmas of that year. Before moving to Philadelphia in 1956, he was a Member of the Lewes Yacht Club and the First Commander of the then, Breakwater Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Music was always an important part of his life and he was a long-time soloist at the Lewes Presbyterian Church. He was a retired Vice President of the Philadelphia National Bank. During the 42 years he lived in Pennsylvania, he maintained a home on Lewes Beach to which he and his wife returned in 1998 - a home originally built by his father as a summer beach cottage in 1923. He enjoyed his years at the Cottage throughout the seasons, frequently visited by his friends and family. He was pre-deceased by his parents, his brother Anthony P. and his sisters, Frances Batezel, Mary Whitney, Comfort Marvil and Anne Halsey, his nephew Brooke Halsey, his niece Trennick Elliott and great-nephew M. Brooke Halsey. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Monique (Pepe), his devoted daughter and son-in-law, Monique (Niki) and Steven Nieblas, his step-granddaughter and husband Andrea and Jason Perez, his two beautiful great-granddaughters, Mia and Sofia. Also survived by two nephews and three nieces and their families, Woodruff Halsey II, A. Paynter Ingram, Comfort Cope, Anne Gonser and Sue Ingram. Funeral Services will be held at the Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes , DE on Tuesday December 29, 2009 where friends may call beginning at 2 PM. Private burial will follow at Bethel Methodist Cemetery, Lewes, DE. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lewes Historical Society, 110 Shipcarpenter Street, Lewes, DE 19958
