Description	:	Homer Irving Satchell, 94, died Saturday, April 28, following a battle with cancer. Mr. Satchell was born in Culbertson, Neb., on May 12, 1906. Mr. Satchell is survived by three sons, two daughters, 26 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren. Read More	Homer Irving Satchell, 94, died Saturday, April 28, following a battle with cancer. Mr. Satchell was born in Culbertson, Neb., on May 12, 1906. Mr. Satchell is survived by three sons, two daughters, 26 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Clara Hart, his parents Charles Elliott and Mary Etta Satchell, four brothers, four sisters and one son, Dale Wayne Satchell. Anna and Homer were married on Nov. 2, 1927 - a union that lasted 70 years and resulted in six children; Roy, Max, Dale, Wilma, Wanda and Lyle. When he was one year old, the family left Culbertson in a horse-drawn covered wagon for the family homestead near Bridgeport, Neb. For the next 31 years, he worked as a farmer-rancher with his family. He continued to ride horses through much of his life and was often heard to say "walking was all used up before I was born." He loved to tell the story of how he would chase his horse 2 miles each morning so that he could ride the 1 mile to school. Mr. Satchell left the ranch in 1935 during the Great Depression, moved to Cheyenne and worked as a Greyhound bus driver until his retirement in 1971. His driving career started at age 12 when his father bought their first automobile. Because neither parent wanted to drive, the salesman drove him to town, gave him a few words of advice, and said to the 12-year-old, "Well, you're on your own!" A favorite memory was seeing Charles Lindberg barnstorm in Bridgeport. For $7 (big money in 1920), he rode with Lindberg's partner. A nose dive toward the town's flag pole almost scared him to death. His last form of travel was a balloon ride at age 91. He was proud of the fact that, absent a space ship, he had traveled on every form of conveyance known to man - horse, covered wagon, car, bus, train, plane, boat and hot air balloon. Mr. Satchell was a member of the Community of Christ Church, a Mason and an active ham radio operator.
