Page 1 ____________________________________________________ Homer Carle, 79, died Wednesday at the home of his son, Orlin, in Cedar Falls following a stroke. Carle was born in Union City, Pa. and married Mae Humphreys of Charles City in 1891. They lived in Howard County a short time and had spent the remainder of their married life in this locality. Surviving are the widow; four daughters and two sons, all of Cedar Falls: [Note: * three sons] Mrs. Walter Fisher (Nellie) Mrs. Lloyd Knapp (Ruth) Mrs. Louise Putney (Louise) Mrs J. Johnson (Anna) Charles Carle Leon Carle Orlin Carle was not listed as a survivor, but Homer died in Orlin's home, so I added him. Three daughters preceded him in death. Page 3 ____________________________________________________ Homer Orlin Carle, second son of Charles and Sarah Carle, was born May 6, 1864 in Union City, Erie County, Pennsylvania. He passed away Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1942 at 10:55 a.m. at age 77y 8m 12d. Death resulted from an attack of heart ailment with which he was stricken Tuesday noon. At the age of 18, he came to Iowa, and on Nov. 24, 1891, he was married to Loveva May Umphreys at his father's home near Charles City, Iowa. With the exception of a few years spent in New York and Dakota, the majority of their married life was spend on farms in Chickasaw and Howard counties. In 1932 they returned to Old Bradford where they have since resided. The deceased attended Wesleyan Methodist Church near Carrville. He also taught school in that community. Last November, Mr. and Mrs. Carle celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Surviving are the widow; five daughters (Nellie, Louise, Ruth, Anna and Barbara; three sons (Charlie, Orlin and Leon); 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Three daughters and his two brothers preceded him in death. Service was 2 o'clock at Little Brown Church in the Vale. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.
