Mr. Smock spent most of his life near Edgewood, and following his death Wednesday evening at his home in Greeley, he was brought to the Rhines Funeral Home in Edgewood. Homer Silas Smock, son of John and Amanda Smock, was born on March 13, 1869 in Crawford County, Pennsylvania, and died at his home in Greeley on Wednesday evening, October 17 after a lingering illness, at the age of 76 years, seven months and four days. In the year 1893 he was united in marriage to Miss Alta Fishel near Edgewood, Iowa. Following their marriage Mr. Smock was engaged in farming and carpentering until seven years ago when they moved to Greeley where they have lived since. Besides his widow, he is survived by ten children, four daughters and six sons. The daughters are Mrs. Keith Darnell of Hanover, Ill., Mrs. Mike Miller and Mrs. James Carnicle of Strawberry Point, and Mrs. Stanley Hess of Greeley. The sons are Glen, Fred and Russell of Edgewood, Merle of Fredericka, Don of Greeley, and Pfc. Lowell Smock, U.S.M.C., stationed somewhere in Japan. He is also survived by 37 grandchildren, four of whom are in the Navy, and six great grandchildren, besides one brother, Elmer Smock of Decorah; four half brothers, O.P. Smock of Greeley, Edward Smock of Austin, Minn., Claude of Waucoma and Clarence of Woonsocket, South Dakota. In addition to many nieces and nephews, and other relatives. Mr. Smock was a man of an industrious and dependable disposition and happiest when engaged in some worthy task. He is held in high esteem by many friends and neighbors who will be saddened at his departure.
