Description	:	Horace began attending Whitter College in Salem, IA in 1874 and graduated in '77 with honors. His love of mathematics earned his the nickname of "Algebra" and seldom had to use a pencil to figure. He was raised in the Quaker faith and practiced their doctrine his entire life. His bible is in the possession of Wayne Davy as of 1998. Moved to Council Bluffs, Ia., in 1883 where he met Cora Belle Weeks. He went first to Saline Co, Ne in 1884 and then to Council Bluffs, Iowa the next year. Began farming at Missouri Valley, Iowa in 1888.... Moved to farm at Verdel, Nebraska in spring of 1895 and filed homestead papers in 1896. He loved trees and planted thousands of them, including a large orchard. Homestead near Verdel described as "4 miles west of Verdel on Hwy. 12, then one mile north and two miles west. Lived in a sod house until a new one was constructed out of wood, which was completed in about 1904.
