Read More	partial obituary: Howard Alonzo Crins, 94, who coached state and New England championship hockey teams at Cranston High School, and taught history and physical education there for 36 years, died Sunday at Pocasset Assisted Living, where he lived. He formerly lived on Ausdale Road in Cranston. Born in Warwick, he was the son of the late F. Edwin and Addie (Covil) Crins. He was the husband of the late Pearl (Woodmansee) Crins. In June, 1996, a new Cranston recreational facility was dedicated in his honor by Mayor Michael Traficante. He was a member of the American Hockey Coaches Hall of Fame, and was inducted into the Brown University Hall of Fame in 1982. During his years as hockey coach, the team won their league title in 1961, the state championships in 1964, and the New England championship in 1966. Mr. Crins retired from teaching in 1973. After retirement, he became an assistant hockey coach at Brown University. He graduated from Tech High in Providence and New Hampton Preparatory School in New Hampshire, then attended the University of New Hampshire for three years, where he was a four-sport athlete, before transferring to Brown, where he received a degree in English and played football and hockey. After graduation, he played hockey for the Providence Scarlets and the University of Maryland Dental College. In his 70s, Mr. Crins worked as a security guard at the Blue Cross and AT&T buildings in Providence. In his 80s, he spent much of his time at the Cranston Senior Center. He also enjoyed fishing well into his 80s. Mr. Crins is survived by a son, a daughter, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Frank Crins , and Marion ( Crins ) Aldrich.
