Howard Alvin Yockey was born Dec. 25, 1938 to Forrest and Ethel (Speer) Yockey in Anthon, Iowa. He grew up on the family farm near Anthon. He attended country school and later Anthon Public School, and then went to work on the family farm. He married Vera Mahin on Feb. 4, 1962 at the United Methodist church in Anthon. The couple farmed at Anthon from 1962-65 and then at Washta, Iowa from1965-1972. In 1972, they moved to rural Lake Benton where they raised their family and farmed until 1980. Howard then drove a bulk milk truck for AMI and also was a substitute bus driver and volunteer driver for Heartland Express until 2001. On Dec. 22, 2006 he was admitted to Tyler Healthcare Center. He was transferred to Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls. He is survived by his wife, Vera, Lake Benton; his children: Thomas (Tinna) Yockey, Terry (Shelley) Yockey, and Julie (Mike) Stuefen, all of Lake Benton; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandson and a second great-grandchild expected in June; brothers Donald (Bernita), Sioux City, Iowa and Johnny, Moville, Iowa; and sister-in-law, Irene Yockey, Anthon.
