Description	:	Howard E. Pohlman, the son of John and Maggie (Lindsey) Pohlman, was born February 16, 1916 in Portland, Missouri. Pohlman, the son of John and Maggie (Lindsey) Pohlman, was born February 16, 1916 in Portland, Missouri. He entered into eternal rest on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa, Iowa at the age of 97. At a young age, Howard’s family moved from Missouri to Iowa. The family lived on various farms in Monona County and during this time Howard attended country school. In his teenage years, he started working for his brother, Art Pohlman. On May 18, 1939, Howard was united in marriage to Hazel Chedester at her parent’s home near Soldier, Iowa. They were blessed with five children: two daughters and three sons. When Howard and Hazel were first married they lived on a farm near Blencoe, Iowa. Then they rented various farms in Monona and Woodbury counties until 1947 when Howard bought the car dealership in Ute. In the mid 1950’s, Howard started farming again along with running the dealership. In 1973, he retired from farming due to a tree accident. Howard and Hazel continued living on their farm until 2009 when they moved to Onawa. Since July 2010, Howard made his home at Elmwood Care Centre. Howard was a member of the Ute United Methodist Church until it closed and then he joined the Charter Oak United Methodist Church. Howard had served on the Ute Town Council and was a founding member of the Ute Commercial Club. He enjoyed reading the paper, playing the harmonica and riding motorcycles in his younger years. Most of all, Howard enjoyed everything about automobiles including buying, selling, driving and repairing them. Howard is survived by his wife, Hazel of Onawa, IA; one daughter; three sons; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one brother; one brother-in-law; one sister-in-law; and many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends. Howard was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Nancy Ann Pohlman; son-in-law, George King; five brothers and their wives: Art and Ruby, Cap and Mae, Clyde and Charlotte, Charlie and Annie and Leo and Frieda; two sisters: Grace Chedester and Eva Wiese; and two brothers-in-law: Charles Gray and Elmer Chedester.
