He was the son of Mary Christiansen and Chris J Lund. His mother passed away when her dress caught fire when Howard was two years old. Howard married Blossom Ione Mallette on Febuary 15, 1946 in Springfield, Missouri. They farmed near Alder Grove for many years. They retired to Craig, Nebraska. It stands east of an upright marker for Howard's sister, Helen Mitchell (and husband John) in the section north of the south entrance and southeast of the cemetery directory.
