Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Hannover, with the Rev. Russell Fitch officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Hannover, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Howard was born Nov. 13, 1937, in Oliver County, to Harold and Cora (Wolf) Henke. During grade school, the family moved to Renton, Wash., for a few years, before returning to Oliver County. Howard worked at numerous jobs throughout the area, before starting to farm and ranch full time. On June 29, 1962, he married Joyce Kaelberer in Hannover and they made their home on the family farm. A dedicated and hardworking rancher, Howard’s cattle were an important part of his life and he always worked hard to improve his herd. He also raised pigs. Howard was a brand inspector, served as an Oliver County commissioner, and was voted Outstanding Young Farmer by the Mercer County Jaycees. In his free time, Howard enjoyed shooting pool and playing pinochle. He loved his farm life, but his grandchildren were the most important thing to him. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Howard will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. Blessed to have shared his life is his wife of 53 years, Joyce Henke, Hannover; two daughters, Paula (Scott) Peters, Mandan, and Tina (Doug) Davidson, Sentinel Butte; two sons, Lonnie Henke, Hannover, and Benjamin Henke, Mandan; three grandchildren, Bryce Peters and Leah and Joshua Davidson; one brother, Merle Henke, Devils Lake; three brothers-in-law, Ed (Ruth) Kaelberer, Canon City, Colo., Jerome (Betty) Kaelberer, Truman, Minn., and Warren (Mary Lou) Kaelberer, Denver; and many nieces and nephews. Howard was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Eunice; and a sister-in-law, Nicci.
