Howard Laverne Severseike was born July 24, 1934 to Howard and Inger Tjelta Severseike on a farm southeast of Garden City in Concord Township, Hardin County, Iowa. Read More	Laverne Severseike, age 86, of Garden City, IA, died on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, IA. Howard Laverne Severseike was born July 24, 1934 to Howard and Inger Tjelta Severseike on a farm southeast of Garden City in Concord Township, Hardin County, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Stavanger Lutheran Church in Garden City, where he later sang in the choir, was secretary for many years, and served as trustee. He went to grade school at Grant #9 east of Garden City, graduated from Radcliffe High School in 1952, and attended Ellsworth College. He farmed with his father, then served in the United States Army from 1956 until 1958 in Paris, France. After his service, he returned home to farm. On September 1, 1962 he married Mary Elizabeth Reisetter at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. They moved onto a farm four miles west of Garden City and spent the next 42 years there raising a family and farming. They welcomed three children into their home: Marcia Beth, Gregory Paul, and Eric Laverne. Soon they were involved with the Roland-Story School system and activities. He joined the Roland Kiwanis and served as President of the Garden City Elevator Board. Our extended families remember many happy times together for holidays with parents, siblings, nieces, and nephews. Right from the beginning of their marriage, Lake Plantagenet, south of Bemidji, Minnesota, was Laverne’s happy place. He thoroughly enjoyed fishing and relaxing with family and friends there. He and his brother, Ron, owned Severseike Trucking. They hauled cattle from the west to local feeders and then hauled them to market when they were ready. He retired in 2004, when they bought their home in Garden City, and enjoyed small town living with friends there. He passed away on December 29, 2020, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa. He had peace that the best was yet to come with his Heavenly Father’s care. He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Inger Severseike, his brother Ron, his brothers-in-law, Walter Topp, Steven Rolland, and Michael Reisetter, and his in-laws, Harvey Reisetter and Verdelle and Harold Hoth. He is survived by his wife Mary; their children Marcia (Jim) Vetter, Urbandale, Gregory (Tera), Ankeny, and Eric (Sofia), Oslo, Norway; grandchildren Kolbe Kalvig, West Des Moines, Jenna (Bari) Dar, West Des Moines, and Garret and Morgan Severseike of Ankeny; step grandchildren Brandi (Bryan) Voracek, Owatonna, MN, Jon (Kelly) Kalvig, Plainfield, IL, and Dan (Tyra) Corona-Kalvig, San Rafael, CA; siblings LaVonne Topp, Hubbard, Iolene (Ober) Anderson, Ankeny, Iola (Richard) Aldrich, Johnston, Helen Severseike, Radcliffe, and Joan (Craig) Neill, Fountain Hills, AZ; Mary’s siblings Thomas (Janis) Reisetter, Cedar Falls, David (Marianna) Reisetter, Westmont, IL, Mark (Jean) Reisetter, Lewiston, MN, and Rebecca Rolland, LaPorte City; and eight great grandchildren: Riley, Madi, Alexander, Kailynn, Judah, Halle, Lena, and Xavier. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, therapists and staff of Mary Greeley Hospital, Home Health Care Services, and Israel Hospice House for the compassionate care they gave Laverne through the years.
