Howard was born January 18, 1907, to Walter D. and Sarah E. Norris on the family homestead in Goldendale, WA. He went to school at the Number 4 schoolhouse until it consolidated with Goldendale. Norris, 98, passed away early Tuesday morning in The Dalles, OR. Howard was born January 18, 1907, to Walter D. and Sarah E. Norris on the family homestead in Goldendale, WA. He went to school at the Number 4 schoolhouse until it consolidated with Goldendale. After attending High School he returned to the family farm. Howard met and married Violet Conlee on Nov. 10, 1935. They have just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. He farmed in Horseshoe Bend and after he and Violet were married they returned to the family homestead in 1937. Both Howard and his father farmed together on the farm until the fall of 1947. Howard and Violet continued to raise wheat, alfalfa, cattle and a few sheep, running cattle in the Simcoe Mountains during the summer months until 1975. Howard was a long time member of the United Methodist Church, Pleasant Valley Grange, and an active supporter of the local fair. He received the Conservation Farmer of the Year Award, the O.P. Kreps Memorial Award, and the Cattleman of the Year Award, along with his son Marvin. Howard was preceded in death by one son, Delmar Norris, in 1961; both his parents; two brothers, Ivan and Harvey Norris; and one sister, Ruth Richardson. Survivors include his wife, Violet Norris; a sister Della Rainey; a son, Marvin Norris and wife Suzanne; a daughter, Marilyn Enwards and husband, Paul; grandchildren, David Enwards and wife Elaine, Lisa Thiele and husband Mike, Annette Bagley and husband Mark, Tony Norris and fiancee Cammy, and Mike Norris. Great-grandchildren: Amanda Norris, Kane Thiele, Chaelene Thiele, Tessa Enwards, Alexis Bagely, Jace Enwards and Benjamin Bagely. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 3, 2005, at Erdman Funeral Home. Interment will be held at Mt. View Cemetery following the service.
