Read More	The Fremont Tribune (on-line) March 9, 2004 Howard Johnson The memorial service for Howard P. "Pete" Johnson, 85, of Fremont will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Elim Lutheran Church in Swaburg. He died Sunday, March 7, 2004, at his home. Johnson was born Aug. 11, 1918, in Swaburg. He married Opal Story on Oct. 14, 1943, in Ardmore, Okla. He served in the U.S. Army during the World War II years of 1940-45 and attained the rank of chief warrant officer. He served in the European Theatre under General George Patton. Following his military service, he farmed in Dodge County, and was a county commissioner. In 1959, the Johnsons moved to Humboldt where they owned and operated the Humboldt Meat Service. He was active in community affairs in Humboldt, including service on the school board and as mayor. While in Humboldt, he was honored as king of the Richardson County Fair in 1978. His wife preceded him in death June 3, 1990. He moved to Fremont in 1992. He was a member of Elim Lutheran Church in Swaburg. He also was a member of the Fremont Eagles Aerie 200, American Legion Post 20 and the Fremont Masonic Lodge No. 15 A.F. & A.M., a 50-year member. Survivors include: three daughters, Judy (Mrs. Richard) Dorsch of Gretna, Nancy (Mrs. Tom) Ring of Helena, Mont., and Betty (Mrs. Lawrence) Maslo of Waukon, Iowa; two brothers, Raymond "Mike" (and wife, Roberta) Johnson of Ames and Gerald Johnson of Fremont; a sister, Elaine Aerie of Central City; a sister-in-law, Almarita Johnson of Uehling; a close friend, Virginia Motley of Fremont; and four grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. The Rev. Robert Larson will officiate Friday's service. There is no public viewing, however, the family will receive friends beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont. A Masonic service, open to all friends, will follow at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Elim Lutheran Cemetery with military honors by the Fremont Honor Guard of the American Legion Post 20 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 854. Memorials have been established to Elim Lutheran Church and the Masonic-Eastern Star Home for Children in Fremont.
