He was born January 12, 1922, the only son of Howard L. and Nell Martin Pond. Read More	Athens Messenger - April 25, 2011 Howard “Rowdy” Pond Jr., 89, of Pickerington, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 23, 2011, in Pickerington after a brief illness. He was born January 12, 1922, the only son of Howard L. and Nell Martin Pond. He graduated from Rutland High School and was attending Ohio University in 1942 when he was called to serve his country in World War II. He proudly served under Gen. George Patton in the European Theater of Operation and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant in the 633rd Medical Clearing Company. Returning to OU in 1945, he completed his college education, receiving a BS in education and began his teaching career in Shadyside, Ohio. Moving to Pickaway County in 1948, he continued his career at Williamsport High School eventually retiring from Westfall Schools after 30 years of service. As a teacher of industrial arts, history and government, he was well respected by students and staff, dispensing discipline at a time when you could and you always knew where you stood. Howard was a charter member of the World War II Memorial Organization, a member of Johnson Minor Post 618 of the American Legion, Heber Lodge 501 F. and A.M. in Williamsport and the Williamsport United Methodist Church. His interests included college basketball, NASCAR, Fox News and anyone who wanted to talk about history, especially the Depression Era and World War II. He was a true patriot to his country, a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather who instilled family values that will cover future generations. After 59 years on earth together, and 9 years of his waiting, he is free now to begin the eternal relationship with his only love, the former Pauline Rose. Also waiting for the homecoming are his sisters, Beatrice Reinhart and Virginia Foss and a nephew, Jeff Foss.
