NYCE, OF BETHEL, DIES HERE Prominent Farmer of Neighborhood Stricken While Recovering From Operation and Complications at St. Thomas Hospital Death Caused by Hemorrhage Howard P. Nyce, 55, a farmer well known in the Bethel Grove and Albion-Liscomb neighborhoods, who had been one of the leaders in affairs of Bethel Grove and its church, died at St. Thomas hospital at noon. Hemorrhage that developed very quickly, was the immediate cause of death, following a series of operations. Mr. Nyce submitted to an operation for double hernia five weeks ago. Resulting abscesses and complications necessitated other operations, but very recently he appeared to be on the mend and his condition had improved much. His death was a most severe shock to the family and the community. A son, Earl H. Nyce, is cashier of the Fidelity Saving bank, city. A resident of the Bethel neighborhood for thirty-five years, Mr. Nyce not only had a large acquaintanceship in the northwestern part of the county but was counted as a progressive farmer keenly awake to farm, community and church interests and a man of many friends. Mr. Nyce was born at Walnut, Iowa, Nov. 12, 1866. He was reared there and in Shelby county and was united in marriage with Miss Anna B. Arney, who survives him, northwest of Albion, March 26, 1890. In addition to the wife and son two other sons, Walter, a student at Ames, and Preston at home, and two daughters survive. The latter are Hazel who is teaching at Renwick, and Emma with her mother. One brother and two sisters also are living. They are A. G. Nyce, Alden; Mrs. Edith Hauser, Liscomb, and Mrs. May KcKinnen, Pasadena, Calif. Times Republican Marshalltown, IA [Monday 3-13-1922] p.9 HOWARD P. NYCE BURIED Many Pay Respects to Well-Known Bethel Grove Farmer The funeral of Howard P. Nyce, well-known farmer of Bethel Grove, was very largely attended at the Bethel church at 2:30 Sunday afternoon. Rev. B. F. Cato, assisted by Rev. George Biersborn, of Liscomb, had charge. A short service was held at the home at 1 o'clock by Rev. Mr. Biersborn. The pallbearers, all members of the church board, were C. E. Arney, L. C. Price, George Hauser, Lloyd Springer, William Sommerlot, and Finely McKibben. Those in charge of the flowers were Misses Myrtle and Dorothy Fiscus, Gladys McKibben, Elizabeth Hauser, Gladys Grace and Gladys Sommerlot. In addition to a great many from this city, those attending from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Nyce and family, Alden; Miss Hazel Nyce, Renwick; Walter Nyce, Ames, and H. M. Knudsen, Mason City. Burial was in the Bethel cemetery.
