A funeral service will be held at 2 P.M., Friday, May 17, 2013, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 1 P.M. until the time of service on Friday. Howard, the son of Charles and Pearl (Hartfield) Trease, was born on October 25, 1918 in Rock Creek Township. At age 16, he began a 43 year career at the Rock Island Railroad. Howard served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII. Howard was united in marriage with Mary Shafer on August 9, 1941 in Unionville, Missouri. Howard and Mary made their home in Kellogg, where he was a member of the Kellogg VFW. Howard enjoyed traveling, bluegrass music, rodeos, mushroom hunting, and dirt track racing. He also was dedicated to his family and loved spending time with them, especially every year on Christmas Eve, when the entire family gathered at Howard's house. Those left to honor Howard's memory are his children, Ima (Dwight) Rawlins of Kellogg, Iowa, Dave (June) Trease of Kellogg, Thel (Al) Sneller of Newton, Iowa, and Jackie (Al) Avila of Overland Park, Kansas; his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bertha See of Grinnell. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; two sons, Charles and Max Trease; and a sister, Faye Bryan.
