Description	:	Howard Thomas Sachs, 78, Rock Island, a lifetime Wenatchee Valley resident, died Friday, Feb. 28, 1997, at his home. He was born on June 3, 1918, to August and Bess (Fraley) Sachs in Wenatchee, where he received his education. Following his schooling, he married Ruthell Barnes on July 1, 1942, in Chelan. Mr. Sachs was in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a flight instructor at Fancher Field. After his military service, he returned to the family's wheat and cattle ranch on Sheehan Flats. He was born on June 3, 1918, to August and Bess (Fraley) Sachs in Wenatchee, where he received his education. Following his schooling, he married Ruthell Barnes on July 1, 1942, in Chelan. Mr. Sachs was in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a flight instructor at Fancher Field. After his military service, he returned to the family's wheat and cattle ranch on Sheehan Flats. He worked for 60 years as a rancher, working until the time of his death. He was a member of the Washington State Cattleman's Association and was named Douglas County Cattleman of the Year in 1953 by that association. He also was a member of the Washington State Wheat Growers Association and was a lifetime member of Appleatchee Riders. Survivors include his wife, at the home; one son, Mike of Rock Island; one daughter, Shelley of Seattle; one sister, Helen Myers of East Wenatchee; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Morris, and one nephew, John Sachs. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
