Description	:	EAST LIVERPOOL — Howard Walton Claypool, 92, formerly of East Liverpool, passed away Saturday, June 20, at the Peterson Rehabilitation and Geriatric Center in Wheeling. Born May 16, 1917, in Follansbee, W. Va., at the home of his parents, Howard Alfred and Emma Rose (Walton) Claypool, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna Margaret (Henry) Claypool and a sister, Dorothy Jean Kocinsky. Read More	EAST LIVERPOOL — Howard Walton Claypool, 92, formerly of East Liverpool, passed away Saturday, June 20, at the Peterson Rehabilitation and Geriatric Center in Wheeling. Born May 16, 1917, in Follansbee, W. Va., at the home of his parents, Howard Alfred and Emma Rose (Walton) Claypool, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna Margaret (Henry) Claypool and a sister, Dorothy Jean Kocinsky. Surviving at home is his second wife, Betty Jane (Nicholson Freeland); two sons and their wives Gregory (Connie) of Akron, and Neil (Gretchen) of East Liverpool; and three grandchildren, Mrs. Julie Renee Wilson (Jeff) of San Jose, Calif., Carrie Rae Claypool of Columbus, and Griffin Neil Claypool, of East Liverpool. Also surviving is his sister, Mrs. Carol Louise Reyna (Charles) of Toronto. Two stepdaughters and one stepson and their spouses survive, Mrs. Arlene (Joseph) Barrett of Hookstown, Pa., Mrs. Anna (Thomas) Moore of Triadelphia, W. Va., and Mr. John (Tina) Freeland of Adena. Numerous nieces, nephews, and stepnieces and stepnephews and stepgrandchildren also survive. After service in the United States Navy during World War II, Mr. Claypool gained employment with the Ohio Power Company, which brought him to East Liverpool in the early 1950's. He also worked for the Fisher Pest Control Company before hiring on at the Crucible Steel Company where he worked until his retirement in 1982. Following his retirement he began service as the first Executive Director for the Calcutta Chamber of Commerce which he enjoyed until moving to Triadelphia, W. Va., in 2005. He took an intense interest in the chamber and the development of the Calcutta area during his stint there, served as president of the Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow. His dimeanor and willingness to serve earned him the honorary title, Mayor of Calcutta. Beyond his family, two thing brought dad great pleasure ... people and singing. His interest in peoplewas genuine, as he simply loved meeting and getting to know people. His involvement in various activities over the years reflected these two pleasures. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 681 of East Liverpool where he served as both secretary and treasurer, eventually earning the Meritorious Service Award. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Steubenville, where he sang in the choir for a number of years. He was a member of the East Liverpool Chapter of the SPEBSQSA, singing lead in the chorus in many barbershop shows. He sang lead in a brabershop quartet, the Dishchords, for several years. He served his church by singing in the choir, first at First Presbyterian Church, then Trinity United Presbyterian Church, and finally at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, where he was honored as the church's Heritage Member. He also belonged to the East Liverpool Elks Lodge. The family will welcome friend to calling hours at Martin-MacLean-Altmeyer Funeral Home, Calcutta Chapel located at 15872 St. Clair Ave., Wednesday, June 24, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and on Thursday at the church prior to services. Masonic Services will be held Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, 767 Park Blvd., East Liverpool, the Rev. Tanta Luckhardt-Hendricks officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society.
