Description	:	Hubert Jean "Frenchy" Lacrosse died peacefully at his home in Hemet, CA on December 5, 2013 at the age of 83. Frenchy was born December 8, 1929 to Leonard and Olga Lacrosse in Montreal, Canada. At the age of 15, he and his family moved to Huntington Park, California. Read More	Hubert Jean "Frenchy" Lacrosse died peacefully at his home in Hemet, CA on December 5, 2013 at the age of 83. Frenchy was born December 8, 1929 to Leonard and Olga Lacrosse in Montreal, Canada. At the age of 15, he and his family moved to Huntington Park, California. Frenchy played hockey for the San Bernardino Shamrocks and was urged by his friend Ralph Englestad to move to Grand Forks to play for the Red Wings of North Dakota. He married Donna Marie McDonald on July 31st, 1954 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grand Forks. He worked in the TV repair business and eventually started his own business, Frenchy's TV Repair, which he ran for 12 years. Frenchy built many friendships during his years officiating hockey both at the high school level and the WCHA. Frenchy built Frenchy's Tavern and Restaurant in 1968. He was an avid University of North Dakota Athletics fan. His establishment was touted as UND's "Home Away from Home". Many a fond memory was made there. Frenchy married Barbara Skavlem on May 15th, 1976. In 1994, they moved to Phoenix, AZ. He eventually moved back to North Dakota and lived in Ashley. He met and married Viola Erlenbusch on April 19th, 2009. While in Ashley he enjoyed being the "Welcome Wagon" for new arrivals and was involved with his church. In 2011, Frenchy and his wife, Viola, moved to Hemet, California to be near his brother and sister. Frenchy spent the later years of his life reconnecting with family via extended road trips, email, letters and phone calls. He enjoyed reliving memories through photos and was an avid card player. He will be remembered for his love of people and life. He is survived by his wife, Viola Lacrosse; his ex-wife, Donna Lacrosse; his brother, John Lacrosse, of Sonora, CA; his children and their spouses Michael Lacrosse of Scottsdale, AZ; Mark and LaRae Lacrosse of Wasilla, Alaska; Laurie and Brad Betting of Grand Forks, ND; Denise Bahadir of Phoenix, AZ; Greg and Lori Lacrosse of Nooksack, WA; Gordon Lyndon of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; Suzanne and Marty Martin of Flagstaff, AZ; Becky and Tom Myers of Flagstaff, AZ; Lori and Dave Kretschmar of Ashley, ND; John and Julie Lacrosse of Buxton, ND; Paul Lacrosse of Grand Forks, ND. Frenchy is also survived by 34 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Nelson Lacrosse and Marguerite Lofy; his ex-wife, Barbara Lacrosse; 2 grandchildren, Cassie Lacrosse and Kristie Lacrosse; and son-in-law, Ilhan Bahadir. An endowment fund has been established in memory of Frenchy, carrying on his legacy while benefiting the University of North Dakota. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the UND Foundation (3501 University Ave., Stop 8157, Grand Forks, ND 58202). A celebration of his life will be held during mass on Tuesday, December 17th, at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, 780 South State Street, Hemet, CA 92543 at 9 AM.
