Description	:	Hugh Franklin Knight, 74, long time resident of the Westview Community and more recently a resident of the Moore Community, went home to meet his Heavenly Father on Friday, August 19, 2011. Read More	Hugh Franklin Knight, 74, long time resident of the Westview Community and more recently a resident of the Moore Community, went home to meet his Heavenly Father on Friday, August 19, 2011. Born on August 30, 1936, he was the son of the late Wales Knight and Ora Dell (Lyles). He married his "Maude" of 57 years, Paula Yvonne (Fletcher) Knight on June 20, 1954. Over his life, Hugh served his country and his community through the National Guard and various positions in the fire and rescue service. He was one of the first members of the Westview-Fairforest Fire Department and Rescue 3, where he retired as the Assistant Chief after 38 years of service. Hugh also served as a Spartanburg County Dispatcher, President of the Spartanburg County Fire Chief's Association, and the Commissioner of the Westview-Fairforest Fire Department and Rescue 3. He was awarded the Hans T. Walker award by the Spartanburg County Fire Chief's Association. Mr. Knight was the owner and operator of Knight's Garden Center. Whether through the purchase of flowers or produce, many in the community got to share a laugh and shake hands with a great man. Hugh most recently was known as the "Christmas Tree Man" of Woodruff. Through his Christmas tree lot, he became a month long resident of Woodruff for the past eight years. He made many new friends and looked forward to coming back and setting up camp each and every November. Hugh served the Lord as a member of Green Pond Baptist Church in Woodruff where he also served as a deacon. He was also a former member and Deacon of First Baptist Church of Moore. Mr. Knight was an avid fisherman. His family and friends have many great memories to cherish that were made on the lake. Hugh and Yvonne obeyed their Lord and were fruitful and multiplied. In addition to his wife, survivors include five sons, Danny (Diane), Robbie (Candie), Steven, Allen (Sherri), and Jeff Knight; fifteen grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ronnie (Gail) and Steve (Pam) Knight; two sisters, Linda Howell (Arnold) and Brenda Stone (Roy); and a host of nieces and nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by a brother, Wendell Knight; a sister, Mary Gregory; and one daughter-in-law, Julie Yates Knight. Visitation was Saturday, August 20, 2011, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Forest Hills Funeral Home. Funeral Services were held at 2:00 PM Sunday, August 21, 2011, at Green Pond Baptist Church officiated by Dr. Bruce Russell and Rev. Gene Pace. Interment followed in the New Life Sanctuary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to Green Pond Baptist Church Building Fund, 300 Chicken Foot Creek Road, Woodruff, SC 29388.
