Description	:	Highland Recorder November 6, 1908 Mr. Hugh Wooddell, a life long resident of this section, aged about 60, was returning from Staunton last Friday accompanied by his son, aged about 23, when not far from the Staunton road, on the Warm Springs & Harrisonburg pike Mr. Wooddell fell from his wagon, the wheel passing upward over the body, killing him instantly. They were both intoxicated and fell from the wagon, it is said. His son can give no account of the accident whatever. We extend to his friends our heartfelt sympathy. Highland Recorder November 13, 1908 CORRECTION The McDowell correspondent was misinformed as to the cause to Mr. Hugh I. Wooddell's death. Mr. Wooddell had been in delicate health for some time. It has been shown from other reports that he was duly sober, and that in one of his fainting attacks he fell lifeless to one side of his wagon. Richmond Times Dispatch November 4, 1908 VICTIM OF ACCIDENT BURIED The body of Mr. Hugh Wooddell, who was accidentally killed on his way from Staunton, was yesterday brought to his home in Eastern Highland for burial. Mr. Wooddell was an old man and in company with his son, was bring a was bringing a wagon load of freight from Staunton. When near Lebanon (near West Augusta), in Augusta County , both father and son fell from the wagon, one wheel passing of the chest of the former and killing him instantly. The son was seriously hurt, but will recover. Mr. Wooddell is the 5th Highland victim to meet a similar death within (last) twenty years. Highland Recorder September 23, 1904 Wagon Accident of Hughs' brother J.H. Wooddell Recorder Sept. 23, 1904: John H. Wooddell killed near the horse-shoe tum on Shenandoah mountain Friday night presumably about 10 o'clock. Mr. John Wooddell, of the Bull Pasture was the victim of a terrible accident which resulted in his death 24 hours later. Mr Wooddell had gone to Staunton with his road wagon and was crossing Shenandoah by moonlight on his return. About 3 o'clock Saturday morning Mr. W.M. McNulty, who also chanced to be a night traveler, found a team and partly wrecked wagon at the water trough on Shenandoah. No trace of a driver being found, he surmised an accident and gave the alarm at the foot of the mountain. A party was soon on the ground, and after some searching the unconscious form of Mr. Wooddell was found near the bend known as horse-shoe tum, his head downward over the edge of the road. An ugly head-wound told the sad tale. Dr. Siron was called but the unfortunate man never regained consciousness and death ensued on Saturday evening, Mr. Wooddell left the Mountain House just after dark Friday and what occurred during the lonely, moonlight drive across the mountain, and the sad details of the accident, will never be told .....
