Description	:	Hugh James Minnis was the son William Minnis and Martha Ellen Savill was born Jan. 15, 1887 on his parent's farm near Riceville, Mitchell County, Iowa. On June 14, 1916 he married Bessie Graves, daughter of Rachael Sarah Nicholas and William John Graves of Mitchell County, Iowa. Hugh had a 240 acre farm where he raised corn, oats, and hay. He purchased 5 purebred heifers and their cattle grew to large numbers. Hugh employed hired hands to help with the farming.
