Description	:	Hugo Krohnke passed away Thursday afternoon. He had been confined to is home for about two weeks and for the past nine days, he was in bed most of the time. Kidney trouble, accompanied by complications, brought his life to an end about 4:00 p.m., at the age of 60 years. Hugo Krohnke was born in Scott County, Iowa on February 26, 1874, the son of Jurgen and Dorothea (Hamann) Krohnke. When he was four years of age, he moved with his parents to a farm in Morgan Township, Crawford County. Here he lived at home, until 1898 when he came to Schleswig, which had just started as a town. For a few years he worked in an elevator and later owned and operated the livery barn. After selling this business, he became associated in various other enterprizes that developed as the town grew. On May 23, 1906, he was united in marriage to Emma Rickers in Otter Creek and later started in the real estate business, which he continued until a few years ago. When the Farmers State Bank was organized, Mr. Krohnke was made Vice President and has held that office for 15 years. Mr. Krohnke is an extensive land owner and kept a farm west of Schleswig, where he raised cattle for the market. Surviving are his wife; two brothers, Herman and George Krohnke, both of Schleswig; one sister, Mrs. E. L. Kieckmann of Schleswig; and many relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon with Rev. Krumell of Mapleton in charge. Burial was in Morgan Township Cemetery, Schleswig. Schleswig Leader, June 21, 1934
