Read More	Published in Remsen Bell-Enterprise (Apr. 27, 1911): A Fatal Ride The happiness of the Toni Delperdang family, residing in Sioux county some six miles north of Remsen, was sadly interrupted last Sunday afternoon through the accidental death of Hugo, the 22 year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Delperdang. Barney Bornhorst, the Remsen machinist, came to the farm in the afternoon with his wife and two children in their new 30 Auburn auto car. After the usual greetings Mr. Bornhorst offered to the children, who admired the vehicle, a ride, and six of them climbed into the tonneau, Mr. Bornhorst as chauffer [sic], B. and Hugo occupying the front seat. The drive was toward Carnes. When about three miles away from the farm house, and the auto following a wagon track, Mr. Bornhorst steered his machine aside. The turn came too suddenly and the machine upset. The auto had a full top and glass front, but withall that the riders escaped safely except Hugo Delperdang, who landed on the ground so unfortunately that the falling vehicle struck his head and held him down. When recovered, efforts were made to bring him to consciousness, but life was extinct and the physician who arrived, declared that death followed the blow instanter. Aside from damage to the top of the auto and the glass front, the machine was whole and fit for the sad drive homeward. Hugo Delperdang, the unfortunate victim of the sad event, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Delperdang of Sioux county. He was 22 years old and highly respected and beloved. His remains were laid to rest in the Catholic cemetary [sic] at Alton on Wednesday, April 26. The stricken family have our sincerest condolence in their days of sad affliction.
