Luhman, 91 of Natoma, Kansas, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2015 at the Via Christi Village in Hays, Kansas. Hugo was born October 25, 1923 in Natoma, Kansas, the son of Carl A. and Emilie (Ahrens) Luhman. He grew up in Natoma and attended school there. Hugo served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was stationed in Italy, Africa and Europe. Hugo was united in marriage to Irene Mae Zeigler on September 28, 1947 in Natoma, Kansas. This union was blessed with three daughters, Marjorie, Susan and Cynthia. They made their home in the rural Laton area from 1947 to 1982. Then they moved to the family homestead farm north of Natoma. Hugo was a farmer and rancher his whole life. He was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church, the Natoma American Legion and a life member of the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240. He enjoyed gardening, reading, woodworking, traveling and was said to have watched every Western movie ever made. Surviving family include his wife of four days short of 68 years, Irene of the home; three daughters, Marjorie Kertz (David) of Riverside, California, Susan Green (Jerry) of Hays, Kansas and Cynthia Elliott of Plainville, Kansas; sisters, Wilma Zeigler of Natoma, Kansas and Norma Horine of Carrollton, Missouri; two grandchildren, Daniel Green (Kinsey) of Hays, Kansas and Steve Elliott (Brook) of Olympia, Washington; and three great grandchildren, Gracie Palmer, Kasdan Green, Maddex Green and Hazel Elliott. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Victor Luhman and sister Esther. Celebration of Hugo’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at the Peace Lutheran Church in Natoma. Burial will follow at the North Lutheran Cemetery north of Natoma. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary is in charge of these arrangements.
