Description	:	Mrs. Hulda Cox was born in Yates County, N.Y., on Jan. 5, 1841. Later she moved to Illinois, then to Colorado, but for fifty years, Iowa has been her home. Her first marriage was to Henry Yontsz. Two daughters were born to them, both dying in infancy. In 1870 she married Geo. W Cox, at Waterloo, Iowa, who died July 20, 1904. Read More	Mrs. Hulda Cox was born in Yates County, N.Y., on Jan. 5, 1841. Later she moved to Illinois, then to Colorado, but for fifty years, Iowa has been her home. Her first marriage was to Henry Yontsz. Two daughters were born to them, both dying in infancy. In 1870 she married Geo. W Cox, at Waterloo, Iowa, who died July 20, 1904. To this union was born one son, Geo. Herbert Cox, of Denver, Colo. In early life Mrs. Cox, in company with an uncle, crossed the plains from Belvidere, Ill., to Denver, Colo., and to Idaho Springs, making the trip and returning by wagon. While in the mountains she was lost in a snow storm for three days, the only shelter being the evergreen trees. She came to Iowa in 1865 and resided here for about forty-eight years. Mrs. Cox was an active member of the Plainfield Relief Corps. She had a cheerful, loving disposition and was loved by all who knew her. Since her husband's death she has lived with her children and sisters. The last four years she spent with her son, G.H. Cox, of Denver, Colo. On Oct. 22, 1917, she arrived in Waverly staying at the home of her sister, Mrs. Sarah Woodruff, visiting there about a month. She came to Plainfield on November 20 and was taken sick Wednesday, December 5, 1917, with la grippe and pneumonia, dying December 13, at the home of her sister, Martha Gallgher, of Plainfield, Iowa. Deceased leaves to mourn her loss, three sons, James Wesley Payne, of Denver, Colo. Albert A. Payne, of DeGraff, Minn., and Geo. Herbert Cox, of Denver, Colo.; one brother, Richard Miller, of Chicago, Ill.; three sisters, Mrs. Sarah Woodruff, of Waverly, Iowa, Mrs. Martha Gallagher, of Plainfield, Iowa, and Mrs. Ira Hurlbut, of Clark, S.D.; ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. The funeral was held from the Plainfield Baptist church on Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Tarbox, pastor of that church, assisted by Rev. Kildow, pastor of the M.E. church. Interment was made in the Horton cemetery.
