Roger was born in Augusta during the month of May in 1937 to Claudia B. and Carroll F. Gagnon. During his childhood he enjoyed hunting, fishing and most any competitive ball game. Read More	ICC US NAVY - KOREA, VIETNAM Roger Gerald Gagnon, Augusta fought his last brave battle with cancer and passed away on May 25, 2017 surrounded by his closest friends. Roger was born in Augusta during the month of May in 1937 to Claudia B. and Carroll F. Gagnon. During his childhood he enjoyed hunting, fishing and most any competitive ball game. Roger graduated from Cony High School in 1956 where he enjoyed playing all sports. After high school Roger competed in some amateur boxing matches. In l956, he entered the Navy where he was first stationed on the USS Yorktown Aircraft Carrier. During his military career, he served in the Korean and Vietnam wars, was stationed as far away as Japan and made it to an E7 rank. Roger met his wife Tadako at Naval Station Great Lakes, Illinois and later married. He spent 20 years in the military and was awarded medals for American Expeditionary Vietnam, Cuban Missile Crisis and Korean 1970. He and Tadako returned to Maine where Roger held various jobs including delivery driver for Downeast Pharmacy and various work in boatyards. Roger's passion was racing, building and fixing hydroplane and runabout boats. He took first place in many races throughout New England. His lifetime boating memberships included the American Power Boat Association, South Shore Outboard Association and the Maine Outboard Association. Roger also had lifetime memberships with the NRA, VFW, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and Fleet Reserve Association. His other memberships included Sportsman's Alliance of Maine, Pine State Capitol Rife & Pistol Association, Capital City Rifle Association, Muzzleloader Association, Vietnamese Navy Advisory Group, Non-Commissioned Officers, Marine Corp Foundation, USS Beatty Association, Navy Unit Citation, Ducks Unlimited and Worromontogus Lake Association. When Roger was not volunteering for organizations, he would often be helping friends and "having fun". Roger was a loyal Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. He was predeceased by Tadako Gagnon in 2002. Roger made countless donations to countless charities over the years and any donation in Roger's memory would be appreciated especially to the local DAV, VFW and American Legion. A graveside service is scheduled at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery (Section C) 163 Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta, ME. Roger will be fondly remembered by his friends.
