Chadbourne, Esq., in the 69th year of his age. Mr. C. was born at South Berwick, in this state, in Jan'y, 1787; he graduated at Dartmouth College, in 1808; commenced the study of law in Kennebunk, with his brother-in-law George Wallingford, Esq., and completed his studies in the office of Daniel Davis, Esq., of Boston. He settled as a practitioner, first in Lubec in 1815, and came to Eastport, after the withdrawal of the English from the islands in 1817. During the first ten years of his professional life, he was actively employed in its duties. From 1827 he gradually, withdrew from his profession, and for the last ten years off his life had relinquished them altogether. During the period of his residence among us, Mr. C. has occupied a prominent place in our community; this, his education and talents, his marked and commanding attributes of character, naturally won for him; and, although his life has been comparatively a retired one, yet was he qualified, both by fine native endowments and good nature, for a more public and conspicuous walk, had either his tastes or his ambition so inclined him. A man of a warm and affectionate nature, his attachment to his family and friends was very strong; of quick and impulsive feelings, he was equally ardent in his dislikes and aversions; speaking and acting without disguise, without the cool second though which belongs to those of a calmer, temperament, he brought on himself the inevitable consequences which ensue from such traits. Let that justice, which, -- if the writer of this notice correctly interpreted his character, -- was a marked feature in it, -- and which we should always bring to our judgment of the dead - let a pure justice, free from all baser feelings, see and acknowledge his excellencies: his genuine kindliness of heart, his warm affections, his ready quick sympathies, his quick perceptions, his strong understanding. Let the unruffled and beautiful serenity of spirit with which, throughout his last sickness, he contemplated the near and certain approach of death, which "tries every man's work, of what kind it is," - let it attest that it must have had its foundation in the consciousness of a life which was right in its main purposes and aims.
