THOMAS ALFRRED CASTLE is the son of WILLIAM ALFRED CASTLE and his wife, ELIZABETH "BETHENA" CARTER/CARTER/MCCARTY. ZACHARIAH CASTLE was born to JACOB CASTLE JR. and his wife, MARY SHANE, at Russell County, Virginia, in 1797. ZACHARIAH was one-half Pekowi Shawnee - Wyandot - Metis, thus making WILLIAM one-quarter Pekowi Shawnee - Wyandot Metis, thus making THOMAS ALFRED CASLTE one eighth Pekowi Shawnee-Wyandot Metis.
In 1860 THOMAS CASTLE , age 5, is enumerated with WILLLIAM and ELIZABETH CASTLE in the household of TOMASON DULANEY, at Estillville, Scott County, VA. His father worked as a tanner and his mother kept house. He is with his siblings: NANCY, ZACHARIAH, GORDON, and LOUISA E. CASTLE. This record indicates that he was born in 1855 though his gravestone indicates he was born in 1851.
In 1870 WILLIAM CASTLE was enumerated at Pattonsville, Powell District, Scott County, Virginia on page #6, Household #40/42. He was listed as being age 65, illiterate, born in Virginia, and working as a farm laborer. (In 1850 the records indicated he was born c1825 and in 1860 born c1825). This would indicate he was born c1805. His wife, ELIZABETH CASTLE, was listed as age twenty-five, born in Virginia, and also illiterate. Others in the household were daughter, NANCY CASTLE, age twenty-five (note the 1850 records indicate she was born c1847 and the 1860 records indicate the same; not c1845 as indicated by the 1870 record); twenty-one-year old son, GORDON CASTLE, born in Virginia, also illiterate (note the 1860 record indicated he was age 9, so the 1870 record should have reflected his age as 19, not 21); fifteen-year-old son, THOMAS A. CASTLE born in Virginia, illiterate (note in 1860 he was listed as age 5, born c1855, same as this record); twelve-year-old daughter, LOUISA E. CASTLE born in Virginia and illiterate; nine-year-old daughter, MARY J., born in Virginia; and four-year-old son, JAMES M., born in Virginia.

On 1 June 1900 as ALFERD CASTLE, Thomas Alfred Castle and his family were enumerated at the Powell District, Scott County, Virginia at Household #7/7. ALFERD CASTLE was born May 1862 in Virginia with parents born in Virginia, age 38, a widower. Living next to ALFRED and his children was his married daughter by his first wife, ALLIE CASTLE OSBORNE, with her husband, JEFF OSBORNE, and their children. At Household #366/386 ALFRED's daughter, IDA, and her husband, CALVIN MILLION, and their children are found living and working also at Clifton Mills #1.
Certificate of Death Commonwealth of Virginia #22618 for Alford Castle names his parents as William Castle, born in Scott County, Virginia, and Eliza Carter, born in Scott County, Virginia. It further states that he was a widower at the time of his death, having been predeceased by his two wives, Louisa Russell and Martha Tipton secondly. He had been ill for thirteen days with intermittent fever. The attending physical was Dr. B. T. Young, a friend of Pearl & Bradley Castle's, and who lived in Stickleyville, Virginia. He died on October 15, 1927 and was buried on October 16, 1927 at the Bell Cemetery in Pattonsville, Scott County, Virginia. He was listed as being 76 years old at his death.
